Thursday, December 9, 2004 - Shooting at Damageplan concert - Dimebag Darrel Confirmed Dead
In Columbus, Ohio, at least three people died and four others were wounded after a shooting at shortly after 10:00p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road. Two members of Damageplan were shot and killed, including guitarist Dimebag Darrell, former Pantera guitarist.

Cincinnati's WCPO-TV spoke to Columbus resident Chris Couch, 22, who says the shooting occurred about 30 seconds after Damageplan began their set. Couch, who was standing about 30 feet away from the stage, claims a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and hockey jersey walked up to the stage. He was followed by a bouncer and another club employee. According to Couch the man climbed onto the stage, started yelling and shot the guitarist five or six times at close range. The gunman also shot a bouncer, who pulled him off the guitarist.

NBC 4 reported that of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.

Dimebag Darrel was shot and killed, as was the band's tour manager. The gunman was shot and killed by a police officer. Columbus police Sgt. Brent Mull said the shooter appeared to be targeting the band members. After opening fire on the stage, the gunman turned on the crowd. At that point, an officer shot the man dead, Mall added. Police said there could have been many more fatalities had the officer not killed the gunman.

NBC 4 has posted a video report on this senseless tragedy here. This is a sad day.
