DreamsFall - Freedom´s calling (3-track Demo)

Keyboards - Tobias Marberger

DreamsFall is the latest band from Sweden trying to capture the ears of the record companies and get a deal in the overcrowded Heavy / Power Metal scene. Listening to this demo has been a nice glimpse into what could evolve into a great band. Melodic and not too complicated songs with mainly high-pitched vocals and many keyboard moments used to give atmosphere to the music. Nothing is new here, so to say, but the quality of the music is consistent. The band keeps the songs pretty simple and straight to the point. I'm sure this will appeal to fans of bands such as Nocturnal Rites, Dream Evil and Hammerfall.

Judging a band from three songs is not always fair, but I will do it anyway :) All songs are good, with Find the sun being my personal favorite. But to make this band really special and stand apart from the crowd they need to create more memorable songs. I think a little more experimentation and more breaks in music would have been interesting.

Several things point towards a promising future though. Guitarist Pontus Norgren has a great presence in all songs and plays one intriguing guitar solo after another, Highlights being the melodic opening to Find the sun, and the solo in Shattered Dreams that just cannot be stopped. Singer Andy Engberg is consistent and fits the music well. His parts are especially memorable in Shattered Dreams. Drummer Mats Karlsson also gives the music some extra detail and overall the musicianship is strong and tight. The production is pretty close to album quality and that gives the songs a polished feel.

All in all this demo shows great promise of what is to come.

I have listned to the song Find The Sun, and I must say it's good, but not outstanding. The guitar work is, as Steen said, super! Otherwise this is a bit too standard Power Metal, which is a shame since the musicians involved are very good. I hope they can evolve a bit more, because they are quite promising.

I really loved "Find the Sun". It's really got a lot of feeling and melodies. Of course, it might be what powermetal is (and is thought to be), but they do it great!! I really want to hear from them *thumbs up*.
