Oliver Weers - Evil's Back
In 2008 Oliver Weers released his high profile debut album "Get Ready". The album received critical acclaim and international press because Marco Mendoza and Tommy Aldridge was hired as rhythm section.

The second album is always important and "Evil's Back" has got the tunes to establish Oliver Weers on the international Heavy Rock scene. The album is a grower and has changed drastically towards the better after several spins. The album is consistent, but the highlights on the album don't surpass the best songs on "Get Ready". However, "Evil's Back" has no weak songs and overall the dependable quality of the songwriting is higher.

The melodic All my Life and riff based Without You are in the same vein as the debut. The ballad Beautiful Rain is a true tearjerker, while Much Too Much is straight-ahead Hard Rock. The album ends on a high note with a personal favorite Demolition man plus Rainbow Star, which has one of the best choruses of the album.

This is solid craftsmanship and firm Heavy Rock with an updated sound. The songs have lots of groove and a few times the band gets playful on a detour to Heavy Metal. The only real letdown is the production, since it doesn't let Weers' voice flower. The vocals drown in the mix. The record is very European sounding with keyboards adding another layer to the arrangements, but it only makes Weers' brilliant vocals less prominent.

The album is a band effort with guitarist Anders Bo Jespersen and Laki  Pagazas as co-writers on most tunes along with Weers. Bassist Anders Borre Mathiesen has produced the album. These are young and relative unknown musicians. Hopefully they are hungry so Weers can take this circuit on the road and build a solid fan base, which will be the foundation for record number three.

The packaging is superb since it comes in a 3 folded digipack and contains a booklet with lyrics. Target Records has progressed into one of Scandinavia's leading labels with a roster that includes Shotgun Revolution, Oliver Weers and Mike Tramp.

If you are in Copenhagen, Denmark there is a release party in Copenhagen at the venue "The Rock" on February 18th.
