Napalm Death - Order Of The Leech
The band Napalm Death hopefully rings a bell for most metal fans. Napalm Death is one of the oldest death metal bands - some even claim that it was the first death metal band ever. That is, however, a discussion I will not take up in this review. Napalm Death has inspired band such as System Of a Down and Deftones and for many years they have been in the death metal elite.

Revelationz Magazine had two interviews set up with Naplam Death - both of which the band didn't participate in. I will try to ignore this incident in this review of the album (to some extent anyway :)

Order Of The Leech is the band's tenth album, and it is nice to hear that they haven't lost the touch - on the contrary. Napalm Death is going back to the roots.

The style of the music on Order Of The Leech is a mix between thrash, death, and grindcore - a nice cocktail indeed. The technical level is very high, but the music still has a very primitive and brutal touch to it. The music is very tight, and all instruments are played with great skill. All the songs are 100% straightforward, and even though this is somewhat a trademark for Napalm Death, I personally miss some more variation and experimenting in the songs. I don't think the songs are especially catchy.

There are some great songs and some average songs on the album. One of the good songs is the opener Continuing War On Stupidity - I especially like the beginning of it. There are some really heavy drums, and thereafter the song continues with brutal riffs and vocals. There is a very good use of double bass drums in the song. Forced To Fear is another powerful song - it starts out with a groovy and very complex riff which is repeated several times in the song.

The best song on the album is Lowest Common Denominator. It is very very fast, and again I am impressed by the drumming skills present here. Forewarned Is Disarmed is another decent song with some great vocals - Barney, the vocalist, simultaneously growls and screams in various parts of the song.

In the genre this album is very good - people who like grindcore should definitely buy this album. Old Napalm Death fans will not be disappointed by Order Of The Leech either - this is maybe the best album in the band's long career.
