Jughead - Jughead
Check out the super line-up of Jughead consisting of Ty Tabor (King's X), Derek Sherinian (ex. Dream Theater, Yngwie), Matt Bissonette (ex. David lee Roth & Joe Satriani) and Gregg Bissonette (ex. Joe Satriani).

When you have a group of technical skilled musicians you expect something extraordinary. On this record you actually get something quite ordinary. Jughead's debut album is not a show-off from the great musicians.

Jughead play Nu-Breed pop Rock very much in vein with Weezer and Ty Tabor's solo albums. The music is well-played guitar driven pop rock and overall the album is a tight album consisting of happy power pop tunes. The album is well produced and sounds very fresh.

These guys are all serious about their music. However, this records sounds like they all had fun and it must be considered as a side project. The band name understates that they don't take themselves too seriously, but still the songs are high quality.

Most recommendable tracks are C'mon, which is a mid-tempo track with lots of great vocal harmonies. A very atmospheric guitar drives the track. The ballad Waiting for the Sun is very representative of Jughead's biggest influences The Beatles. The vocal arrangements are very Beatles-like. Jughead also makes a clear Fab Four reference in Paging Willie Mays. "Are you for real? - Strawberry is in the field". Other highlights are Be like You and Flowers, which both are melodic happy up-tempo tunes. Ty is using a vocal distortion on Flowers, which has strong hit-potential.

Overall the album has many catchy melodies, but in between there are a few tracks that are too ordinary. The joy of playing together overshadows those few tracks. Jughead's debut album has been a very positive acquaintance. Their music is tailored for radio airplay.
