Sweet Sybil - Sweet Sybil
Remember when - that how the first song goes on Sweet Sybils debut. Remember when there were real talent contests like battle of the bands and NO American idol?

Sweet Sybil started their career by winning a local Battle of the bands contest.

When you spin Sweet Sybil you have no doubts that this was recorded in the early nineties. It was a time where the musical boundaries were expanded with Primus, Faith No More and of course the grunge wave. Sweet Sybil is a melting pot of all kinds of music but rooted in Hard Rock.

The band has a raw street feel like Spread Eagle. Downtown Suicide is the best example of their street metal feel. # 69 has horns and a funky groove that reminds of Extreme. Walkin Talkin is a bit too alternative - the raw heavy guitars are great but the vocals are too peculiar leaning across Mike Patton. Sweet Sybil's most melodic contribution is Someone in Your Eyes.

The story of Sweet Sybil is like many others. The worked hard and kept releasing demos without getting a deal. On the local scene they headlined the biggest clubs. I just wish that the music scene was as fruitful today as back then when a band like Sweet Sybil could fall through the label cracks.

A tighter musical direction would have suited the band. Singer Sam Carava has his own style, which defines Sweet Sybil.
