Article - Book review: Sheriff McCoy - outlaw legend of Hanoi Rocks

Written by Michael

In Finland "Sheriff McCoy" was a bestseller. Finally the decadent biography of legendary Hanoi Rocks guitarist Andy McCoy sees an international release in English.

The book is well-written and spans from McCoy's childhood to early 2000 when Hanoi Rocks reformed. Actually the first 40-50 pages did capture me at all, but they are essential for the person Andy Mccoy or Antti Hulkko, which is his birth name. The rest of the book contains entertaining stories only and surprisingly also a very reflecting Andy McCoy with some interesting points.

The book is not written in chronological order. Even though the first pages that deals with McCoy's childhood are rather sad because of an alcoholic father McCoy makes them rather funny.  Read this description of his childhood home:

My dad beat my mom, my mom beat my big brother, my big brother beat me, I beat my sister, My sister beat the dog, the dog beat the cat, the cat beat the hamster and the hamster beat whatever bugs he could find

McCoy has led a real Rock N Roll life and the book is jammed with great stories. To reveal a few: there is a story about doing heroin with Steve Adler, being on tour with Iggy Pop,  smoking too much pot in Asia, his lifelong friendship with Michael Monroe and McCoy is a real Rock N' Roller so everything is spiced with sex, drugs and Rock N' Roll. Of course the focal point of the book is the rise and fall of Hanoi Rocks. McCoy has a very interesting point regarding the death of Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle, who was killed by Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil in a car accident.

The book is not just sex, drugs and Rock N' Roll. One thing is bigger than the sex, drugs and Rock N' Roll and that is love. McCoy's love for his wife Angela shines through the entire book and it is maybe the best story of them all.........Nah, the stories about the Hanoi days, about McCoy's days in L.A. and his touring stint with Iggy Pop are top class entertainment.

The 204 page hardcover book has lots of pictures and a discography. The packaging is tasty and the content lives up to its tasty covering.

McCoy comes off as an intelligent man and all stories are told with warmness and humor.

A very enjoyable book from the real McCoy! Please visit http://www.bazillionpoints.com/  for more information and to order your copy.
