Dare - Belief & Beneath the Shining Water
They might be forgotten but AOR/pomp rockers Dare has been releasing albums in Europe since their breakthrough album "Out of the Silence". This special 2 CD release features the two latest Dare albums released in 2001 and 2004. This double release is aimed at the US market, since these album only was released in Europe. Dare's claim to fame was that lead singer Darren Wharton was in one the greatest Rock bands, Thin Lizzy.

Don't except smooth AOR on these two Dare albums. The big keyboards and guitars are out in favor of a Celtic sound. The band incorporates violin, whistle and pipes in their music and believe me; Dare does it successful since the music has lots of atmosphere.

Especially "Belief" doesn't sound commercial in contrast to Dare's AOR roots. "Beneath the Shining Water" is a stronger album compared to "Belief" but still in the same vein. The "Beneath.." songs are just a tiny bit stronger with album highlight being Sea of Roses, which is driven by a special atmosphere and Wharton's great vocal chords. Sea of Roses is just a phenomenal song. The acoustic Silent Hills is one more great melodic folk rock song. Beneath the Shining water is another favorite and features the best vocal performance of Darren Wharton. He is a superb singer with a very warm tone, which suits the music perfectly.

Dare is unfailing consistent since everything comes together; lyrics, vocals and the emotional guitar/keyboard parts!

The music of Dare won't offend anyone. The electric guitars and keyboards are toned down, but even stripped down this collection proves to be a great bunch of well written tunes. This double release package has lots to offer. Open a bottle of wine, lit some candles and be enchanted by the Welsh hills and captured by the atmosphere
