Vanden Plas - Far Off Grace
Well, this is one of the most interesting albums ever made. The overall atmosphere is one, I have never heard before, it's capturing in its own strange way.

The music works very well with the mystical lyrics, about inner fights, spirituality, your inner soul and feelings, wisdom, love and finding clarity. Both lyrics and music is not easy stuff to get into, you have to think about the very interesting themes and I appreciate that a lot.

The progressive elements are all over the album, and you never think that you are finished listening to it. What in particular must be mentioned are Günter Werno's mind-blowing keyboard arrangements. They are always there, either they are right in your face, melodic, or luring in the background making fantastic moods. Among my favourite songs is the diverse and powerful Iodic Rain with a great varied drum performance, and also I Can See; the albums fastest and shortest song, packed with power and aggressive elements.

I Don't Miss You is a very symphonic and bombastic ballad. Emotional vocals and fantastic piano/keyboard arrangements make up all the input in this song.

The mystic and atmospheric Inside Of Your Head is another highlight. I get totally carried away by the dreaming start. A great song with lots of progressive elements, a raw bass and detailed heavy guitar riffs.
Even the production is unique on this release. The keys are centrally placed into the overall picture, the guitar sounds bombastic and very tight and otherwise the balance is accurate and the sound clear

I'm In You ends the album in genius style. With its slow and hypnotic atmosphere, combined with a great melodic guitar solo and a melodic chorus, it completes a fantastic album.

Of the 9 songs there are some that doesn't seem to capture me in the same way as the majority.
For ex. Far Off Grace has a slow stretched-out chorus that seems to put a hold on the song. Where Is The Man has some great changing parts, but it hasn't the same intense feeling and exiting atmosphere. Still these songs lie on a very acceptable level of composition, and my overall 8,5 is a very high one indeed.

Great heavy guitar riffs, fantastic keyboard/piano parts with a sensationally mystic atmosphere and feeling, a very powerful bass combined with some technical drumming and a great detailed voice helps make this an excellent record.

This album needs to be heard many times, evaluated over and over, and cherished because of many great aspects, especially its originality and innovative approach.

Far Off Grace, is by far the best album by Vanden plas. The heavy sound and the hard riffs make me crave more. I think it is better than "Beyond Daylight" because it has more of a metal sound which I personally like. Now don't get me wrong "Beyond Daylight" is a great album as well. I just like "Far Off Grace" more. it kicks ass in my book. Rating 8,5/10.
