Events and Reports - Asia - Live at KB Hallen, Copenhagen - December 3rd, 2005.

Asia had been given the task of warming up the eager people at tonight's triple concert (Uriah Heep and Dio was to play later).

The band went on stage precisely at the announced time, and immediately blasted into their blend of pompous, ultra melodic AOR, opening with two songs from the self-titled debut, Wildest Dreams and Time And Again. Asia appeared like a well-oiled machine, and the old fans seemed impressed by the band, who got a warm welcome and a fine response. Next, we were offered the very melodic title track of the latest studio album, Silent Nation, complete with a cool guitar solo.

The music of Asia is extremely melodic and keyboard oriented, and at the same time it is easy to see how the band earned the tag "Arena Rock". There is some sort of anthemic and huge feeling to the sound, sweeping you away to great stadiums, with fists pumping high and adrenaline flowing through your veins.

Sole Survivor was one of the songs that got stuck in your head immediately, and made even us newcomers to the band able to sing a long a little bit tonight.

During the show, I couldn't help but miss a little bit more interaction with the fans, or some sort of outburst of energy. The band appeared a bit too passive, only guitar player Guthrie Govan had a big smile on his face, and really seemed like he loved being on stage. Except for that, the rest of the band didn't really smile very much, lift their hands in the air, or send other signs that they wanted the fans to interact, which would have suited their overall appearance.

Nevertheless, there was still some sort of intense aura around the band, sucking you in and making you move closer to the stage. That I could use a bit more energy doesn't mean the band seemed like they didn't care. There was a friendly vibe between the band and fans, underlined by things like singer John Payne inviting people to come and have a beer with him after the show in the bar!

Asia appeared like a tight machine, very professional and focused on delivering the songs flawlessly. It was obvious that these guys have been doing their stuff since the early 80's, and their musicianship could only be admired.

The old mega hit Heat Of The Moment marked the ending of the show. Old and new fans grabbed the chance to jump around and scream their lungs out for this final climax!

Asia left the stage as quickly as they had gotten there, leaving satisfied fans behind!
