Baltimoore - Fanatical
The rock just doesn't stop with these guys. Baltimoore really sets a new tone for no nonsense hard rock that forfeits all the need to overexpose anything else but a straightforward driving force that just rocks. Their sound is similar to bands such as Bad Company and Led Zeppelin, but of course they put a contemporary spin onto their ear candy, which is similar to Badlands, Tesla, or Russell Allen.

Besides putting their rock and roll mantra to high points their sound offers twin axe attack (courtesy of Mankan Sedenberth and Stefan Bergstrom) and the gritty throated vocals of Bjorn Lodin, who sings out a rawness that conveys power and emotion which matches the powerful backbone of their pulsating rhythm section; Fanatical thrusts the powerful rush melodic energy to your face like a fatal head on crash.

Their music offers, no synths, no overzealous improvisations, no layered production and no bullshit; where the emphasis of Fanatical is focused is on a tight groove that ponders upon the spontaneous energy that is brought forth with the songs that these guys bring to the table. With material such as the AC/DC reminiscent "My Number One" with each guitar taking it's own speaker channel, the sleaze driven "Wishes and Reality," the aggressive "Give Me What You've Got," and the haunting "Kiss Me," Fanatical is balls to the wall rock and roll all the way, marking more high notions for melodic hard rock.

It's great to hear bands going back to basics, and as much as we all love our metal and rock on the technical, symphonic, and progressive side, there is something about the straight ahead guitar based substance that really puts the guts and glory back into rock. The expression of musical height on this album is clear, fuse good songs with some excellent guitar playing, as well as the swift power of the drums and the bass, and you have real rock and roll. Not the rock that is played on radio that comes and goes; this is rock that has true meaning with real musicianship and songwriting, and that is what counts.
