Gene Simmons - Asshole
Shout it out loud for a band named Kiss!

Last year Gene Simmons of Kiss released his high anticipated solo release "Asshole" on Sanctuary Records. Now Silverline has released it on Dual Disc, which is a double sided disc with a CD and DVD side. And why is the main question, because this album truly sucks and only got a release because of Gene's name that attracts fans of Gene's money making band Kiss.

What did Gene expect, when he made an album that deviates so much from classic Rock that Kiss is famed for? Most Gene Simmons and even the most devoted Kiss fans must have been very disappointed with this crappy album.

The only highlight is album opener Sweet & Dirty Love, which has a vintage 70's Kiss sound to it. The song also features ex. Kiss member Bruce Kulick, who sets his mark with his characteristic slide playing. Eric Singer also plays drums on the track.

However, "Asshole" doesn't anywhere live up to its promising start. Weapons of Mass Destruction is alright with Gene's classic thunder bass and again Bruce Kulick delivers a great solo. The title track is nothing spectacular but unfortunately the only song worth listening to besides the 2 already mentioned.

The remaining 10 tracks are pure crap. The majority of the songs are dinner music suitable for background playing at a 60 year birthday. There are no guitars, cool bass lines - but the music's main ingredients are soft vocals, piano and drum loops. It's an album dominated by easy listening tracks and as the album progresses in playing time you keep thinking that it can't get any worse but it does.

The DVD side includes a video to the techno track Firestarter. It might as well been a gansta rap video with big cars and half-naked girls with nice butts. Gene plays the role as pimp and his rap posture makes me lose some respect in him and I think the same goes for all the Kiss followers that idolize him a big Rock star. While playing the DVD side, make sure you checkout the picture that follows the last track I Dreamed A Thousand Dreams.. That's nice for daddy.

Avoid this CD if you are into Rock music. and if you can't avoid it - I am sure your grandfather might find it an easy digestive CD to go down with a nice bowl of gruel.

I'm a big Kiss-fan, but this album really sucks. I only like ONE track here, and it's Weapon of mass destruction, at least this track ROCKS... the rest... sucks!

This album is horrible i give it a 0.1 rating , Alot of this album sounds like throw away songs from KISS albums....The only album that might be worse than this is KISS "Psycho Circus"....KISs were on to something great with "Revenge" & "Carnival Of Souls"....Now KISS & Gene Solo should retire!!!

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice shame on me.

This is 1978's Solo album all over again! A kick-ass opening track (Sweet & Dirty love) and then a bunch of Post-Folk acoustic crap! Tunel of Love or True Confessions (from the 1978 solo) would fit right in here!
