Jeff Scott Soto - Believe In Me (EP)
Well Mr. Soto has given us an E.P. to tie us over until his next record comes forth (Lost in the Translation), which I can tell you is absolutely awesome, but for now lets talk about these five tracks. With the exception of the title track, Believe in Me is a collection of ballads, done in the only way Soto himself could have done, with no syrupy bullshit here.

So with that said "As I Do 2 U," is an acoustic ballad filled with emotion, complete with the metallic guitar solo, needed to add the edge to this track; following up with "This Ain't The Love," a cut that has the same acoustic feel as "2 U" does, with both those songs being eased back with a mellow, but yet powerful vibe. "Lonely Shade of Blue," tends to follow a more pop oriented atmosphere, even featuring a sax solo giving a more soulful element to this cut. The release closes with "Still be Loving You," with it's psychedelic and mystical vibe, bringing the eased back trippy vibe to round out this release.

Now, as for the title opus, saving this one for last, "Believe in Me" is one of the best straight-ahead and most rocking tracks yours truly has heard in a while, complete with a catchy chorus, powerful vocals and Neil Schon on guitar, no, this is not a long lost Journey cut, not by any means, but Schon does put his imprint on it, no denying that. A video is also included via Quicktime of "Believe in Me," fairly neat the way a mosaic and silhouette effects were used on the screen. Overall this collection makes for a great release of ballads that might not have fit on his next record, but overall, it's the perfect compliment to it.
