Ephemeral Sun - Prototype 19.5 (demo)
The demo opens with a somber piano/female vocal solo piece for the entirety of track #1 "Fall Betrays The Earth" making me think it's gonna be some nice mellow gothic music. Track #2 "Winter Has No Mercy" however, pops right into a 70's style prog rock romp but with added metal elements. Lots of keyboard doubling the guitar. I hear some Deep Purple/Jon Lord organ. Tons of vintage/rush keyboard sounds too. This track is an instrumental and showcases the band's plentiful talents.

Track #3 "Hands Of Fire" sees the return of vocalist Laurie Ann Hause for that Gothic flavor again. Similar in sound to Madder Mortem's Agnete M. Kirkevaag but Laurie can do some falsetto'higher parts. So far I'm inclined to describe this as Gothic/Prog rock, but then track #4 "Approaching Acheron" opens and it's like an experimental, progged out Pink Floyd with a short metallic burst at the end of this, also instrumental, track.

Many twists and turns, good production, and very talented, versatile players make this a sweet demo indeed. Indications are favorable for for a future album deal and respect in a fairly new/unexplored market; Progoth Metal.
